Now through August 17, 2026: submissions are open for our first subscription issue of Inkandescent Kids Magazine!
Our theme for the September/ October 2026 Issue is: Beginnings
We are excited to introduce the first-ever subscription issue of Inkandescent Kids Magazine! On September 1, 2026, we will release our first bimonthly e-zine to subscribers. Our website www.inkandescentkids.com and social media @inkandescentkids on Instagram and Facebook often features writing and articles by adults, for kids. We want to give kids the opportunity to share their own work in their own regular publication: an e-zine produced by kids, for kids, about kids!
Kids from Kindergarten to college are invited to submit their best work around the September/ October issue’s theme: Beginnings
We are looking for:
Recipes: do you have a recipe that you make at the beginning of the school year or to kick off a holiday? Is there a breakfast recipe you love for the beginning of a busy day? Write it out step-by-step: we love recipes with lots of clear steps and pictures!
Short stories: do you dream of being a published author? Do you have a short story where the character faces the beginning of something new? Submit a story of 750 words or less.
Essays and articles: do you have a non-fiction essay or article about moving to a new place, starting a new activity, or another kind of new beginning? Submit your essay or article of 750 words or less.
Art: Do you have a drawing, painting, photograph, or graphic design that symbolizes a beginning? We’d love to see it! Submit an image of your artwork!
Puzzles and Games: Do you love to design word searches, crosswords, riddles, or puzzles? Have you invented a cool game? Submit the image or write out the instructions!
What to Know Before You Submit:
We collect submissions through a Google Form (linked below). The form will collect an email address, which we will use to let you know if your submission is accepted or not for the September/ October 2026 issue of Inkandescent Kids Magazine. Please add editor@inkandescentkids.com to the safe senders list of your email account so that you are sure to see our response!
In the Google Form, you will be prompted to write a cover letter. For advice and tips on writing a cover letter, please see our article, How to Write a Cover Letter, written by Inkandescent Kids editor Ellen Smith.
The form will allow you to upload your submission. The file you choose to upload must be smaller than 10MB. You can upload one of the following formats:
- Document (.doc or .docx)
- PDF file (.pdf)
- Image (.jpg or .png)
You will be prompted to pay a $3 submission fee through Venmo. We charge a small submission fee for two reasons:
- Completing a second step outside of filling out a form–sending a payment through Venmo—helps us cut down on our forms being flooded by spam bots.
- Since many of submitters may be under eighteen years old, Inkandescent Kids staff will need to communicate with parents and guardians! It’s important to us at Inkandescent Kids Magazine to make sure that parents and guardians are involved, aware, and giving permission every step of the way. That’s a good safety practice, and we think it’s good professional practice, too!
