There’s more: Think like a reporter

• Submit your work for publication: If you or your child would like to submit an article, photo, video, illustration, puzzle and more, it’s just $3 for the submission. It’ll get the conversation started with our team about joining our staff of kid reporters.
• Take a class:
  • Become an Inkandescent journalist — For just $150 for a 3-week session, students will work with InkandescentKids publisher and founder Hope Katz Gibbs, an award-winning reporter, author, and entrepreneur. The class will start with a lesson on the basic tenets of journalism — asking the essential questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how. Next, students will start work on an article about the topic of their choice and will work with Hope to do the research, write, and edit the article until it’s ready for publication. The student’s byline, bio, and photo will be included in the article, and they will be considered for inclusion as a member of our staff.
  • Become an Inkandescent photographer — In this $150, 3-week class, students will work with professional photographer and videographer AnnaGibbs, and learn the basics of photojournalism. Students will be assigned a subject to photograph and Anna will work with them to edit their pictures until they are ready for publication. The student will receive photo credit and their bio, and their photo will be included at the end of the article.
  • Become an Inkandescent illustrator — In this $250 3-week course, students will work with award-winning illustrator Michael Gibbs to prepare an illustration for publication.
  • Join our staff — In this 6-week $350 class, Inkandescent Kids magazine editor Ellen Smith will prepare students to assist her in running our editorial team. Students will learn about newsroom management, editorial design, editing, and more!
