Light the Way foundation: Janice Murphy is on a mission to ensure all youth are afforded the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities

Entrepreneur and activist Janice Murphy founded Light the Way Foundation (LTW) in 2016 because, as a child, she shares that she was unable to participate in activities due to limited resources. “My mission is to ensure all youth are afforded the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities, as they are critical to development,” shares Janice, who received a Master of Business Administration degree from UMUC and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Strayer University. “I have always had a passion to help youth reach their goals. LTW has enabled me to watch community youth develop into confident and educated young men and women. I believe in our future leaders and work to ensure they have the support and resources they need to be successful.”

On August 16, 2026, the organization hosted its premiere of Destination Union Station, an original film created by our Youth Film Camp students. Featuring Annie Yu (CBS: WUSA9) as Mistress of Ceremonies.
